Accreditation Family Engagement Standards


These standards are to be used as orientation to the Accreditation Process. All standards are in the Accreditation Manual with indicators that serve as evidence the standard is met. Programs considering pursuing accreditation through the National Accreditation Commissionshould enroll in Self-Study.



B1. A written orientation plan introduces children and their parents to the program.

B2. Parents are provided with written policies and procedures.

B3. Parents are permitted access to the program and their child's classroom during all hours of operation.

B4. The program has methods for communicating important information to parents on a regular basis.


B5. Staff members maintain on-going communication with parents about their child's experiences and activities.

B6. The director and teachers work cooperatively with parents regarding decisions about the child’s successful experience in group care.

B7. Parent-teacher conferences are held.

B8. The program provides parents with opportunities to better understand children's growth and development and effective strategies for learning.


B9. The program develops partnerships with community agencies to connect families to resources and enrich the curriculum.


B10. Family members are invited to participate in all aspects of the program.


B11. Parents have opportunities to influence the program.
